An innovative building skin system that can reduce exterior construction times by as much as 33% is available from Building Composites LLC, a recently incorporated Dayton-based company that was created to offer architects, building owners, engineers and contractors an alternative to traditional cladding products. The company’s HyperWall™ is a high-quality, sustainable exterior building skin system that incorporates proven material, design and manufacturing technologies to simplify building construction while enabling greater versatility and lower overall project costs. It uses structural composite panels combined with pre-installed glazing to allow fast installation and quicken building completion times.

The company was founded by Andy Loff, an engineer and entrepreneur with more than 20 years of experience in bringing advanced material solutions to the construction industry. Prior to founding Building Composites, he helped launch several successful engineering and fabrication companies.

“We believe the HyperWall system will expand how architects and builders think about design and construction,” Loff said. “Not only does it offer more flexibility and design choices than wood, masonry, concrete, steel and plastic; it also has the potential to have a real impact on project timelines. Our team has done extensive research and testing to create a product that can reduce the construction time required to close a building, with significantly less on-site labor and equipment.”

Some of the benefits of the HyperWall system from Building Composites LLC include:

  • Fast installation: HyperWall panels are built off-site, including glazing, fireproofing and other elements, which means they can be installed on-site quickly, using fewer trades and subcontractors.
  • Design flexibility: Building Composites can manufacture standardized panels at a competitive cost, enabling architects to create distinctive projects within budget.
  • Sustainability: HyperWall panels have the lowest embodied carbon of any exterior building system available, which reduces the carbon footprint of projects. Windows, fireproofing and other building elements are integrated into the panels before they arrive at a job site. And the light weight of the panels eliminates the need for mobile cranes for installation, reducing fuel use.
  • Turnkey subcontracting: Building Composites can manage the entire exterior building process from building information modeling (BIM) to installation of the HyperWall system.

HyperWall panels will play key roles in two major construction projects scheduled to begin in January: a new global headquarters building for HITT Contracting, a top national commercial construction firm; and Converge West Falls, a 438-unit, mixed-use residential project. Both projects will be located in Falls Church, Virginia. The HyperWall system is expected to shorten the exterior construction time for each job by 33% with significantly less on-site labor and equipment. The exterior building skin will also reduce the embodied carbon of both projects by at least 50% compared to architectural pre-cast concrete.
